What is Reiki?

Reiki is an alternative energy healing medicine. Reiki was founded in Japan by Dr. Mikao Usui. The healing method is similar to hand healing that has been used for thousands of years. It promotes relaxation while balancing the body, mind and spirit helping your own healing exactly as needed at the session.

Can I receive Reiki while receiving medical, psychological, massage, osteopathy or other treatment?

Yes. Reiki is complementary to any treatment plans and therapies with successful results. In fact, Reiki can enhance the effects of other treatments. It can also be used to complement the health care you receive in hospitals or with other health care providers.

What are the benefits of Reiki?

Reiki can help reduce stress, anxiety, anger, tension or relieve physical pain. It can help clear the mind, remaining more grounded and give a greater sense of self awareness. Reiki is commonly used at hospitals, for adults or children, and even pets! It is also used at aged or palliative care to assist transitioning.

Reiki can assist a clients wellbeing by making them feel:

  • relaxed
  • peaceful
  • more energetic

It can also help:

  • reduce pain
  • reduce the side effects of Chemotherapy
  • reduce Stress and Anxiety
  • accelerate healing
  • greater connection, acceptance and love for self
  • process emotions, situations that are consciously or subconsciously present
I can't attend in-person, can I still receive Reiki?

Yes. A Reiki Distance Healing or Phone Healing is an option for anyone overseas, interstate, or unable to see me in-person. Click here to read more about Reiki Distance or Phone services.

Do I remain clothed during a Reiki Treatment?

Yes absolutely! Reiki is a laying-on of hands technique and does not involve the client removing their clothes. In fact please keep the clothes!  The technique explaining the hand positions will be explained before the treatment. Usually the hands will be placed on the main energy centres located on your body (back of head, forehead, temples, heart, stomach, hips, knees, ankles or feet). The client is informed of the process during the first consultation to determine any sensitive or painful areas. The hands are gently placed on the energy centres. During my healing I will intuitively see if some essential oils are needed to massage on your feet for grounding and support. I will always ask for your permission first.

Has Reiki ever been practiced in hospitals?

Yes! Reiki programs have been run in many hospitals and taught in many schools around the world. It is used in hospitals in palliative, cancer care or pre and post surgery patients. We all have healing wisdom in us.

What happens during a Reiki Treatment?

  • There will be a brief discussion on what is happening in your life.
  • You will be asked to lie on a reiki table or sit in a chair.
  • I will place my hands on your body in sequences of positions.
  • The session does not involve any form of physical manipulation.
  • You do not need to remove any clothing and no private parts of your body are touched.
  • During a session, you may feel warmth or cold, a tingling sensation, slight twitching or a rumbling tummy, or you may feel absolutely nothing.
  • We will have a brief discussion on how you are feeling after the session.
  • A complete reiki session can last from 60 to 90 minutes depending on the session booked.
What will I feel during or after the Reiki treatment?

This can vary by person and each session. It depends on the individual and what is being healed at the session. You may not feel anything, but this does not mean that Reiki is not working . Some may feel sensations during or after the treatment such as: heat, cold, tingling, buzzing, relaxation, sleepiness, mood swings or other temporary symptoms. Your symptoms may be heightened after the treatment which is common and temporary. This will usually last a maximum of three days after the healing integration.  To receive the full benefits of a Reiki treatment, it is important to look after yourself by drink lots of water, eating wholesome food and avoid toxins (i.e. nicotine, alcohol, caffeine, processed food etc.) for at least 48hrs after a treatment to aid the cleansing of the body. After a healing I will email you other information to assist the integration.

Is Reiki a holistic treatment?

Yes. Holistic care addresses the person who has the disease, rather than the Disease the person has. Holistic healing seeks to bring people to a state of wholeness in Body, Emotions, Mind and Spirit.

Is Reiki safe?

Reiki energy works only for the Highest Good of each person and does not cause harm. The practitioner does not use their energy to heal - they channel Reiki, which is Divine Life Force Energy. Reiki is safe for anyone and for any situation including pregnant women and children.

Is Reiki a religion?

No. Reiki is not a religion. It is very spiritual in nature, however no belief is required in order to learn and use it. The beautiful part of Reiki is that it will work regardless of whether you believe in it or not as it is the universal energy force in all living things.

I'm thinking of learning Reiki. Can I treat myself?

Absolutely. The foundation of the Usui Reiki System is personal and spiritual growth through self-treatment. Therefore, after completing Reiki First Degree, daily self-treatment is encouraged and recommended.

What is a Reiki attunement?

Attunements are performed by a Reiki Master during Reiki Courses. Attunements are energetic transmissions used to pass on the Reiki frequencies of the relevant Reiki Level (i.e. Reiki First Degree). With the Lotus lineage attunements must be made in person by touch and not over video or distance.

As a student of Reiki it is advisable for you to confirm if your teacher had in person hands on training and hands on in person attunements. This is a requirement to become a member of Australian Reiki Connection (ARC).

The founder Usui was physically present when he attuned his students and the same respect is expected to be passed onto new students.

Can Reiki be used with animals and plants?

Yes. Animals can respond faster to Reiki than humans. Plants also respond well, because they are living energy fields that can be out of balance. There is a growing number of Reiki Practitioners specialising in Animal Reiki.

How is Reiki different from other modalities?

Reiki connects with the energy itself, rather than manipulating it. As such Reiki is subtle, gentle and suitable for children and during pregnancy. It is a beautiful gentle loving way for children to release blocked energy and expectant mums to relax and release fears.

Can anyone learn Reiki?

Yes anyone can learn Reiki. Reiki is universal energy that we all have inside us. Completing the levels connects you on a deeper level to your energy and healing wisdom.

How many levels of Reiki are there?

There are four levels:

Reiki 1; this is the basic level teaching for self healing and healing of family, friends or dependants. This level is all about self healing. It all starts with self.

Reiki 2; this is the intermediate course for practitioner level. You will need to have completed Reiki 1 at least three months earlier. There is a deeper connection to self and students are taught distant healings. Two sacred symbols are shared.

Reiki 3A; this is the level going further into your Reiki journey learning three new sacred symbols and techniques needed for a master healer. This is the level to connect to your truth and wisdom on every level. There is an expansion in self love.

Reiki Master Teacher; this level is where you are certified as a Reiki Master Teacher where you can teach and attune students. It is a 15 month journey discovering your power and calling. There are seventeen sacred symbols shared to support this deeper teaching

Can I learn Reiki 1 if I never had Reiki healing?

Yes! Yes! Yes! Absolutely anyone can learn Reiki 1. You do not need to know about Reiki or have had a healing before. There are no pre-requisites. Many people start their healing journey by attending Reiki 1.

Do you need a Coach?

You don’t need to do anything that doesn’t feel right for you. Imagine shifting and moving by yourself, from a house that you have lived in your entire life. Moving by yourself, with no help! Can you do this alone? Yes of course you can do it alone! You can do anything. However the process may be overwhelming, stressful, lonely, or with little enjoyment.

Having a holistic coach helps identify, sort and unpack what you have stored and compartmentalised your whole life. The layers are unpacked with love and guidance. I support you to remove and declutter what no longer serves or is needed to make room for greater abundance, joy and love. We work together to find what is sabotaging or blocking your full potential and give you tools and techniques to believe you are worthy of love, abundance, peace and happiness. You may be a leader that is responsible for a team or community and you want to become a mindful leader.

How do you select a Coach?

Once you know that you want to work with a coach, you need to find the right coach for you. There are many important things to consider in choosing the right coach for you. This is a special relationship and the most important thing in selection is a coach who you feel very comfortable with. Someone who you feel a connection with and that you can trust. The coach is there to offer you a judgement free space to grow and develop yourself.

All coaches have different wisdom, tools and gifts to share. However if you don’t feel comfortable, connected or safe with them you won’t be open or honest to share yourself or support.

Is something wrong with me if I need a Coach?

No! Absolutely nothing is wrong with you. You are perfect as you are and as you grow. You are doing the best you can with the tools you have right now. Growing can feel overwhelming at times so feeling like you need additional support and guidance from an impartial person is an investment in your growth. What can be more important than investing in your happiness and growth?

What will I receive from a Coach?

A coach helps show you the path and provides tools, offers support, guidance, and holds a sacred space for your journey. We do not heal you, because you already have everything within yourself to heal and grow. We help you navigate your own mind, body, heart and soul to use the magic that is within you. You receive as much as you are open and willing to stand in your truth to embody your whole self, your passions, move forward into love by letting go of self sabotaging actions or limiting beliefs.

How often do I need to see a Coach?

This is personal and unique for each person and what they want to achieve. You may have one intention and a single session is enough to clarify your direction. You may need someone to support you through big changes in your life. You may need someone that is neutral and will give you a different perspective on decisions you are making. You may need all of the above, it is all individual.

Generally clients are working through changes where deeper shifts need regular support and guidance. I meet with clients fortnightly in the first few months. We then assess what schedule suits you best depending on your requirements.
